Applications are now open for the 2026-2027 FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship, a fully funded opportunity for students from eligible developing countries to pursue Master’s degree programs in Hungary.
The scholarship is jointly funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Hungary, and aims to build capacity in agriculture, food security, and environmental management by training young professionals in world-class Hungarian universities.
Available Master’s Degree Programs (Taught in English)
The following MSc programs are offered for the 2026/2027 academic year:
- MSc in Agricultural Biotechnology
Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Szent István Campus, Gödöllő - MSc in Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety Engineering
Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Kaposvár Campus, Kaposvár - MSc in Plant Protection
University of Debrecen, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, Debrecen
Courses will be offered only if the minimum number of students is reached.
Eligible Countries
Applicants must be nationals and residents of one of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestine, Philippines, Cabo Verde, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
Scholarship Benefits
The FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship is fully funded and covers:
- Full application and tuition fees for the entire study period
- Basic textbooks and lecture notes
- Dormitory accommodation
- Monthly subsistence allowance
- Health insurance
All costs are financed by the Hungarian Government under the FAO–Hungary cooperation agreement.
Note: The scholarship covers student expenses only. Family members are not supported under this program.

Selection Criteria
Applicants will be assessed based on:
- Citizenship and residency in an eligible country
- Strong academic performance
- English language proficiency
- Motivation and relevance of studies
- Good physical and mental health
- Age (candidates under 30 years are preferred)
Application & Selection Process
The selection process takes place in two phases:
Phase 1 – FAO Pre-Screening
FAO reviews applications and forwards eligible candidates to the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, which then submits them to the selected universities.
⚠️ Only complete applications will be considered.
Phase 2 – University Selection
Shortlisted candidates may be required to take a written or oral English test. Final selection is made solely by the universities, with successful applicants notified by both the university and the Hungarian authorities.
