Applications are now open for the 2027 Australia Awards Masters-level Scholarships, a fully funded scholarship program administered by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The Australia Awards Scholarships aim to contribute to the development priorities of Australia’s partner countries by building the skills, knowledge, and leadership capacity of individuals from developing nations. The program provides opportunities for talented professionals to undertake full-time postgraduate (Master’s) study at leading Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.
By supporting future leaders, the Australia Awards Scholarships empower graduates to return home and drive sustainable development, policy reform, and economic growth in their countries.
Eligible Countries (Africa)
Applicants from the following African countries are eligible to apply:
Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Eligibility requirements vary by country. Applicants must review their individual country profile for specific criteria.
Priority Fields of Study
For the 2027 intake, priority areas for eligible African countries include:
- Agriculture and Food Security
- Climate Change
- Foreign Policy and International Security
- Gender, Disability, and Social Inclusion
- Mining and Energy
Applicants are encouraged to choose study programs aligned with their country’s development priorities.
Scholarship Benefits
Australia Awards Scholarships cover the full cost of study and living expenses for the duration of the Master’s program, including:
- Full tuition fees
- Return economy-class airfare to and from Australia
- Establishment allowance to support accommodation and study materials
- Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE), paid fortnightly
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award
- Introductory Academic Program (IAP) before the start of studies
- Pre-course English (PCE) training, if required
- Supplementary academic support where necessary
- Fieldwork support (where compulsory and applicable)
