Young women from eligible countries now have an opportunity to study STEM master’s degrees in the United Kingdom through the British Council Women in STEM Scholarships 2026/2027.
The programme is designed to tackle the persistent underrepresentation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by providing fully funded one-year master’s scholarships at leading UK universities. It specifically supports women from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds who have strong academic potential but limited access to international education opportunities.
Each award is valued at a minimum of £40,000, covering tuition, living expenses, travel, visa costs, and health insurance.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to women applying under the following cohorts:
- British Council Women in STEM Scholarships
- ASEAN Women in STEM
- Women in STEM Scholarships (Hong Kong, Mexico, Brazil, and other funded cohorts)
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a woman, as defined under UK legislation
- Be a permanent resident and passport holder of one of the eligible countries for the 2026/2027 academic year
- Be able to obtain a UK student visa
- Have completed an undergraduate degree (final-year students may apply if they will graduate before enrolment)
- Meet the academic and English language requirements of the chosen UK university
- Demonstrate financial need and be unable to privately fund UK studies
- Not be receiving another scholarship that duplicates the core benefits
- Preferably have no prior long-term international or UK study experience
- Show motivation, academic ability, and a clear interest or work experience in STEM
- Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after graduation
- Demonstrate a plan to support women and girls in STEM after completing their studies
