Applications are now open for the DW Akademie International Media Studies (IMS) Program 2026, an English-taught Master’s degree designed for media professionals and aspiring leaders in journalism and communication.
The program is jointly run by DW Akademie, the University of Bonn, and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and prepares participants for leadership roles in journalism, media management, and strategic communication in a rapidly evolving global media landscape.
About the International Media Studies (IMS) Program
The IMS Master’s program targets students from around the world who aim to work in positions of responsibility within journalism, media organisations, public communication, or development-focused institutions.
The curriculum combines:
- Journalism and media practice
- Communication and media development
- Research and academic theory
All courses are delivered in English, making the program accessible to international participants.

The IMS Program is particularly suited for:
- Journalists and media practitioners from radio, TV, print, and online platforms
- Journalists-in-training, especially from electronic media
- Media professionals working with community radio stations
- Communication specialists and media managers
- NGO and civil society organisation staff
- Employees of government ministries
- Professionals from development cooperation projects
- Representatives of national broadcasters and regional media groups

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the IMS Program, applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Have at least one year of professional experience in a media-related field after completing their first degree
- Demonstrate a strong interest in journalism, communication, or media development
- Be proficient in English, as the program is fully taught in English
Scholarships Available (DAAD)
A limited number of scholarships are available through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
DAAD Scholarship Highlights:
- Available to up to 10 highly qualified applicants
- Reserved for candidates from developing countries
- Applicants must have obtained their last university degree within the past six years
- Selected candidates will need to submit additional DAAD-specific documents
