Building on the success of its inaugural AI for Science fund, Google.org is launching an expanded program to support groundbreaking research at the intersection of AI and scientific innovation. The goal is to enable transformative breakthroughs—accelerating discovery at digital speed and driving measurable social impact.
What Is the AI for Science Impact Challenge?
The Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Science is a global open call inviting eligible organisations to apply for funding and technical support to advance scientific research powered by AI.
In addition to financial support, selected organisations may participate in the Google.org Accelerator, receiving:
- Six months of pro bono technical expertise from Google engineers and AI specialists
- Access to Google Cloud credits
- Structured mentorship and training
Focus Areas
AI for Health & Life Sciences
Projects that improve understanding of human life and health, including:
- Genomics
- Brain mapping
- Biomedical research
- Public health innovation
AI for Climate Resilience & Environmental Science
Projects advancing knowledge of Earth’s systems, including:
- Biodiversity
- Agriculture
- Oceans
- Climate modeling
- Environmental sustainability
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include:
- Nonprofit organizations
- Public or private academic institutions
- Research institutions
- For-profit social enterprises with clear social impact goals
Applicants must:
- Have a registered office in their country of operation
- Not located in an excluded country (see official terms)
- Apply through an eligible organisation (individuals are not eligible)
