Applications are now open for the 2026 Economics of Artificial Intelligence in Africa Short Course, a fully funded programme delivered by the Global Center on AI Governance in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape markets, labour systems, and power structures across Africa, understanding its economic implications has become increasingly important. This short course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and analytical tools needed to assess how AI is influencing African economies and how policy, regulation, and investment decisions can shape its long-term impact.
The programme is delivered fully online over five weeks and combines live virtual seminars, expert-led discussions, applied case studies, and reflective assessments. Participants will engage with leading African and global scholars while exploring real-world policy and economic challenges linked to AI adoption on the continent.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of competency.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
- Have an academic background relevant to public policy, economics, AI, social development, African studies, or related fields
- Possess professional experience that contributes to peer learning, including work in governance, public service, policy, or international development
- Indicate geographic location and scope of professional work
- Provide details of current institutional affiliation, where applicable
