CJID Next-Gen Internship Programme 2026 for Young Nigerians

Applications are now open for the 2026 Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Next-Gen Internship Programme, an intensive internship initiative aimed at grooming the next generation of Nigerian journalists.

The Next-Gen Internship Programme targets outstanding campus journalists, mass communication students, and recent graduates who are eager to gain hands-on newsroom experience. Selected participants will be placed for a three-month internship with reputable mainstream media organisations across Nigeria.

The program is designed to promote mentorship, expand professional networks, and build participants’ confidence while equipping them with the practical skills and real-world exposure needed to succeed in modern journalism.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Be a campus journalist who has actively practised journalism on campus and demonstrated strong reporting skills (including non–mass communication students)
• Have graduated from a tertiary institution and are awaiting NYSC, or are a Mass Communication student eligible for SIWES
• Be available full-time for:
  • At least 3 months before commencing NYSC, or
  • A minimum of 3 months for SIWES, or 6 months for a graduate internship
• Have published at least two high-quality accountability reports on the Campus Reporter website
• Identify a reputable media organisation within your locality and provide contact details for the Managing Editor or Director

Note: CJID will only place interns with verified and reputable newsrooms.
