Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships at SOAS University of London.
Hyundai Motor Group is offering seven fully funded scholarships to outstanding African students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees. The scholarship aims to nurture future leaders committed to sustainable development across Africa and to build long-term collaboration networks between Africa and global institutions.
Number of Awards
- 6 Master’s Scholarships
- 1 Research (MPhil/PhD) Scholarship
Eligible Programmes
- Any full-time (1 year) Master’s degree programme
- Any full-time Research degree programme (MPhil/PhD)
- Programmes starting in the 2026/27 academic year
Not eligible:
- Part-time programmes
- Two-year master’s programmes
- Pre-sessional courses
Applicants to programmes within the College of Development Studies, Economics and Finance and the College of Law, Anthropology and Politics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be African nationals ordinarily resident in Africa
- Be classified as International fee-paying students
- Be applying for a new admission (starting 2026/27)
Academic Requirements
For Master’s Applicants:
- International equivalent of a First-Class Honours degree (UK)
- Candidates with a 2:1 may apply, but will not receive preference
- Non-UK applicants must demonstrate a top academic ranking via transcripts and references
For MPhil/PhD Applicants:
- International equivalent of a Master’s degree with Distinction
- Candidates with Merit may apply, but will not receive preference
- Non-UK applicants must demonstrate a top academic ranking
Applicants must:
- Have applied to SOAS (an offer is not required by the scholarship deadline)
- Hold an unconditional offer before the selection panel meets
- Meet SOAS English language requirements (if applicable)

Scholarship Benefits
Master’s Award
- £27,730 total value
- Full tuition fees paid
- Remaining balance provided as stipend (if tuition is lower)
PhD Award
- Full tuition fees for 3 years
- Writing-up year tuition (4th year)
- Annual stipend of £22,780 (2026/27 rate) paid termly

Application Process
Step 1: Apply for Admission
Apply for your chosen programme via:
- Taught Master’s: SOAS Master’s Admissions
- MPhil/PhD: SOAS Doctoral School
You must apply for admission before accessing the scholarship application.
Step 2: Apply for the Scholarship
Submit your scholarship application via the SOAS admissions portal by:
25 April 2026 (12 noon UK time)
You must have course login credentials to access the scholarship application.

- Shortlisting and selection expected by June 2026
- Successful candidates will be contacted first
- Unsuccessful applicants will be notified after all awards are allocated
