Applications are now open for the 2027 UNESCO World Heritage Residence Scholarship, a fully funded international residency for professional artists, cultural practitioners, and researchers. The programme supports innovative artistic or research projects that connect the Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland (Sweden) with one or more UNESCO World Heritage Sites worldwide.
Hosted in Gävleborg County, Sweden, the scholarship promotes cultural exchange, heritage conservation, and the exploration of Outstanding Universal Value in line with UNESCO’s mission. Selected participants will develop and deepen their work within a unique World Heritage environment while engaging in cross-cultural and knowledge exchange.
Focus of the Scholarship
Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that demonstrate a clear, relevant, and feasible connection between the Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland and other UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Proposals may explore themes such as:
- Cultural heritage and conservation
- Universal value and sustainability
- Cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange
- Artistic interpretation of World Heritage
The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant whose proposal best reflects UNESCO’s spirit and values.

Scholarship Benefits
The UNESCO World Heritage Residence Scholarship covers:
- A 4-week residency at one of the World Heritage farms:
- Kristofers Farm, Järvsö or
- Erik-Anders Farm, Söderala (Sweden)
- A scholarship grant of 50,000 SEK
- Travel costs to and from Sweden
Selection Process
- The scholarship holder will be announced in November 2026
- Applications are reviewed by a jury based on:
- Artistic or academic quality
- Relevance to UNESCO World Heritage values
- Feasibility of the proposed project
- Strength of the connection between World Heritage Sites
