The University of Glasgow African Excellence Award is a prestigious scholarship designed to support high-achieving students from Africa who aspire to become future global leaders and changemakers.
For the 2026/27 academic session, the University of Glasgow is offering up to 16 full tuition fee scholarships to outstanding African students admitted to a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme in any discipline. This award is aimed at students who wish to use advanced education to positively impact their communities and contribute to Africa’s development.

The African Excellence Award reflects the University of Glasgow’s commitment to global inclusion and academic excellence. It supports talented students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership potential, and a clear vision for how a Master’s degree will advance their career and development goals.
⚠️ Postgraduate diplomas and certificate programmes are not eligible.

What the Scholarship Covers
- Full tuition fee waiver for the entire Master’s programme
- Does not cover living expenses, travel, or accommodation
- Recipients must still meet the UKVI living cost and financial requirements
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the African Excellence Award, applicants must:
- Demonstrate academic excellence, equivalent to a UK First Class Honours degree
- Hold (or be working towards) an offer for a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme starting September 2026
- An offer is not required to submit the scholarship application, but is required for interview consideration
- Have an International fee status
- Be domiciled in Africa and hold a passport from an eligible African country
- Clearly demonstrate a career and/or development plan supported by Master’s-level study
- Meet UKVI financial and living cost requirements as an international student
Eligible Countries
Applicants must be citizens of an African country, including but not limited to:
Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Submit your application for an eligible Master’s programme at the University of Glasgow. -
Apply for the Scholarship
Complete the African Excellence Award application using your Student ID and application number. -
Submit Before the Deadline
Applications must be completed online.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for the University of Glasgow African Excellence Award is 31 March 2026 at 23:59 (UK time).
Selection Timeline
- Interview shortlist notifications: By 8 May 2026
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly by the University
Important Notes
- Scholarships cannot be combined with other University of Glasgow discounts or awards
(except Alumni Discount) - If awarded multiple scholarships, the lower-value award will be removed
- This scholarship is highly competitive and merit-based
