Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must:
- Hold a foreign Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) recognised by UNIL.
- Demonstrate a strong academic record.
- Provide proof of language proficiency: minimum B2 in French or C1 in English.
- Not already enrolled at UNIL.
- Pay a CHF 200 admission fee during the application process.

How to Apply for the UNIL Masters Scholarship
Applicants do not need to apply separately for admission and the scholarship. The Master’s Scholarship application form also serves as an application for admission to the chosen Master’s programme at UNIL. Here are the steps:
- Apply Online: Complete the online application form available on the official UNIL website. During this process, you must upload a complete application file in PDF format. Applications sent by email or incomplete files will not be considered.
- Supporting Documents: Ensure you include all required documents (see the “list of documents for an application” on the UNIL site). These typically include transcripts, CV, cover letter, and proof of language proficiency.
- Certified Copies (if applicable):
- If your Bachelor’s degree is from a university in a country that did not ratify the Lisbon Recognition Convention, you must also send certified copies of your university documents in a sealed envelope directly from your university by post.
- If your university is in a country that ratified the Convention, you do not need to send certified copies by post.
- Recommendation Letters: Two recommendation letters must be sent directly by your referees from their official institutional email addresses (not personal ones) to mastergrants@unil.ch. These must include your full name and arrive before the deadline.
- Deadline:
- The final date to submit your online application is 1 November 2025 for admission in the following academic year (autumn or spring semester, depending on the programme).
- If certified copies are required, the postal date stamp of 1 November will serve as proof of timely submission.
- Recommendation letters must also be received by 1 November 2025.
⚠️ Important: Incomplete files — such as missing PDF documents, missing recommendation letters, or absent certified copies (if required) — will automatically be rejected.
