Applications are now open for the 2025–2026 intake of the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda. This fully funded undergraduate scholarship empowers talented young Africans, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, refugees, and persons with disabilities, with access to world-class education, leadership development, and lifelong support.
This program aligns with Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works Strategy, aiming to enable 30 million young people to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030. Students selected will benefit from more than just financial aid—they’ll join a transformative learning environment, develop critical leadership skills, and connect with a global community of changemakers.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to:
- Rwandan citizens applying under the national scholarship quota
- Citizens of any African country, refugees, or displaced youth residing in Africa
- Youth not above 28 years at the time of application (or 30 years with certified proof of protracted conditions—e.g., refugees, single mothers, or child-headed households)
- Applicants who are academically qualified but have limited access to opportunities
- Students who demonstrate leadership potential and community engagement
- Candidates who meet the admission criteria of eligible programs at UR
- Applicants who have already generated a UR Reference Number by applying to an eligible undergraduate program at the University of Rwanda
Note: Refugees and persons with disabilities must submit official legal documentation from UNHCR, NCPD, or another recognised organisation.

Application Process
- Apply to UR First
Submit your undergraduate application to the University of Rwanda through the e-filing portal and obtain a UR Reference Number. - Complete the Scholarship Application Online
Visit the MCFSP recruitment portal to fill out the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application.- Refugee applicants should use the form specifically provided for them within the portal.
- The form can be filled in multiple sessions, but must be submitted only when complete.
- All supporting documents must be uploaded in PDF format, under 250 KB, and clearly named using your name and UR reference number.
- Required Documents
- Proof of nationality (or refugee/disability status)
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- Leadership or community engagement statements
- Any supporting materials that reflect your background and commitment to societal impact
