Nigerian undergraduate students with innovative tech ideas can now apply for the 2026 Heirs Insurance Group Hackathon, a national competition aimed at using technology to transform Africa’s insurance industry.
The hackathon brings together young innovators, tech talents, and industry experts to develop AI-driven solutions that improve insurance access, efficiency, and customer experience across Nigeria.
About the Heirs Insurance Hackathon
The Heirs Insurance Hackathon is a technology-focused innovation challenge designed to rethink how insurance products are created, delivered, and accessed in Nigeria.
Participants will work in teams to build artificial intelligence solutions that address real challenges in insurance operations, helping to simplify processes and expand access to coverage for more people.
Hackathon Challenge
Participants are expected to develop AI-powered solutions that solve real-world problems within the Nigerian insurance industry.
Solutions should focus on at least one of the following areas:
- Claims processing
- Underwriting
- Customer experience
- Product distribution
Who Can Participate
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be undergraduate students enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution
- Form a team of three (3) members from the same institution
- Ensure their proposed solution is AI-driven and aligned with one of the focus areas
Prizes
Winning teams will share a total prize pool of ₦9,000,000:
- First Place: ₦5,000,000
- Second Place: ₦3,000,000
- Third Place: ₦1,000,000

How to Participate
Interested teams can join the competition by following these steps:
- Form a Team
Assemble a team of three students from the same institution and select a team lead. Teams are encouraged to include a mix of developers, designers, and project managers. - Download Proposal Template
Access the official proposal template to guide the presentation of your idea. - Ideate and Design
Develop an AI-driven solution addressing one of the four focus areas using the template provided. - Submit Your Proposal
Export the completed proposal as a PDF and submit it through the official platform for review.
