Who Can Apply for the Afreximbank Group Internship

The programme is open to high-performing students who meet the following criteria:

• Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme in a recognised institution.
• Specialising in: economics, business, finance, law, accounting, engineering, statistics, social sciences, or related fields.
• Nationals of Afreximbank member states, students of African descent in the diaspora, and non-African students with a genuine passion for Africa’s transformation.
• Aged 20–32 at the time of application.
• Fluent in English or French (knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage).
• Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible.

Internship Details

• Duration: The internships are offered for up to a maximum of six months twice a year (January and June). Applications for internships are received throughout the year.
• Location: Mostly at the HQ in Cairo, Egypt. Physical presence required—this is not a virtual programme.
• Start: Interns must begin within the first month of the internship season.
• Rotation: You’ll be inducted and then rotated across departments to gain a 360° view of operations.

While this is an unpaid internship in terms of salary, Afreximbank offers generous support:

• Return airfare (economical, direct route) from your school location.
• Monthly stipend of USD 1,000 and housing allowance of USD 500 (for international interns).
• One week’s hotel accommodation (bed and breakfast) upon arrival.
• Visa support and airport transfers.
• A robust learning environment with mentoring and guided development.

Note: Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and personal accident coverage valid in Egypt (or their internship location).

How to Apply for the Afreximbank Group Internship

Applications are open year-round, and successful candidates will be contacted.

Prepare the following documents:

1. Online internship application form
2. Letter of application
3. Updated CV
4. Valid passport copy
5. Certified academic certificates
6. Letter of recommendation from your university (specifying internship period)
7. Statement of Intent (max 1 page)

Once selected, you’ll have 2 weeks to accept the offer and submit proof of insurance. Failing to do so means the offer will be withdrawn.

At the end of your internship, you’ll write a report on your experience—what you learned, and how you intend to apply it to advance Africa’s development.
