2025 African Graduate Fellowship at the American University of Cairo

The African Graduate Fellowship is a competitive opportunity for bright and highly motivated African students seeking to pursue a master’s degree at The American University in Cairo (AUC). This fellowship supports outstanding individuals from across Africa (excluding Egyptian nationals) each year for full-time study in any of AUC’s graduate programmes.

Fellowship Overview

  • Location: Cairo, Egypt
  • Eligible Programmes: All disciplines offered at the graduate level
  • Mode: Full-time study (minimum nine credits per semester or as required by the programme)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a non-Egyptian African national
  • Applicants with dual nationality (African and non-African) are not eligible
  • Must be newly admitted to an AUC graduate programme or be a continuing student maintaining excellent academic performance
  • Must meet AUC’s graduate admissions requirements, including English proficiency (International TOEFL iBT or Academic IELTS scores)
  • Financial need is a consideration
  • Continuing students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 to retain the fellowship

Fellowship Duration

  • Covers up to five semesters and one summer session, with academic performance reviewed each semester
  • For students in the Counselling Psychology programme, the fellowship duration may extend to seven semesters

Fellow Responsibilities

  • Complete 12 hours per week of assigned academic work
  • Maintain full-time student status
  • Uphold a minimum GPA of 3.2 throughout the study period
  • Complete mandatory Teaching Assistantship training if involved in teaching duties (find more details here)
