Applications are now open for the 2026 Fate Foundation AI Upskilling Programme, a pan-African initiative designed to strengthen advanced AI education across higher education institutions (HEIs).
Led by FATE Foundation in collaboration with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and supported by Google.org, the programme aims to build a sustainable, scalable AI education ecosystem across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa.
The initiative focuses on equipping lecturers, teaching assistants, and final-year STEM students with cutting-edge AI knowledge while supporting institutions to integrate advanced AI curricula into existing academic programmes.
Eligibility Criteria
Participating institutions must:
- Be accredited Higher Education Institutions offering STEM programmes in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, or South Africa
- Have lecturers, teaching assistants, and students who are available and committed to active participation
- Demonstrate adequate faculty availability and technical readiness
- Commit to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) reporting and capstone project participation
- Show a clear willingness to embed advanced AI curriculum into existing STEM programmes for long-term sustainability

Curriculum Overview

It is based on the Google DeepMind AI Research Foundation’s curriculum, covering advanced topics ranging from small language model development to the implementation of real-world AI projects.
Selection Process
- Applications are assessed based on eligibility, institutional readiness, and demonstrated commitment
- Selected institutions will be notified and onboarded accordingly
