The Africa Health Collaborative, in partnership with the University of Toronto, is offering the 2026-2027 Mastercard Foundation Doctor of Public Health Scholarships program. This fully funded scholarship covers tuition, travel, housing, living expenses, and books, while providing access to a strong support network and orientation programs to help scholars succeed in graduate studies.
The scholarship is open to recent graduates from partner universities across Sub-Saharan Africa who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to returning home to contribute to their communities. Up to three awards will be given for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applicants must attend a mandatory virtual information session and complete a multi-step application process, including a formal submission to the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
The Award
This scholarship provides full financial coverage for tuition, travel, housing, meals, books, and all other program-related expenses. Scholars will also receive ongoing support and access to orientation programs to ensure academic success and readiness for future contributions to their home countries.
Graduate Program
Three Mastercard Foundation Doctoral Scholarships will be awarded for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program for the 2026-2027 academic year. Selection will prioritise applicants with a clear motivation for public health, strong career goals, and a commitment to Africa’s development.

Eligibility Assessment
To be considered, applicants must meet all five of the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of and currently reside in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Have graduated from an Africa Health Collaborative partner institution and not yet begun doctoral studies.
- Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership during undergraduate and master’s studies.
- Be academically eligible for the Doctor of Public Health program.
- Show a clear intent and commitment to return home for the final two years of the program to contribute to Africa’s growth and social development.
How to Apply
Step One
Review the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program admission requirements and ensure you meet the academic criteria before proceeding.
Step Two
Attend one of the three mandatory virtual information sessions. These sessions provide essential guidance for the scholarship application:
- Info Session 1: September 3 | 10–11 am EST | 2–3 pm GMT | 4–5 pm CAT | 5–6 pm EAT
- Info Session 2: September 11 | 8–9:30 am EST | 12–1:30 pm GMT | 2–3:30 pm GMT | 3–4:30 pm EAT
- Info Session 3: September 25 | 9–10:30 am EST | 1–2:30 pm GMT | 3–4:30 pm GMT | 4–5:30 pm EAT
- Q&A Session: October 1 | 10–11 am EST | 2–3 pm GMT | 4–5 pm CAT | 5–6 pm EAT
Step Three
Complete the Mastercard Foundation Doctoral Scholarship application. The link will be provided during the info sessions. Applications must be submitted by October 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Applicants who meet the criteria will be notified by November 1, 2025.
Step Four
Shortlisted applicants will then submit a formal application to the Doctor of Public Health program at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health. This application is due by November 22, 2025, and must include all required documents uploaded online.
