The International Civil Society Week (ICSW) Journalist Fellowship 2025 offers a fully funded platform for journalists to immerse themselves in one of the most influential global events on civic space, human rights, and democracy. Scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 1–5, 2025, the programme is jointly organised by CIVICUS, a renowned global alliance of civil society organisations, and the Asia Democracy Network (ADN). Through this fellowship, selected participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with human rights defenders, grassroots organisers, and civil society leaders from all over the world, while gaining front-row access to conversations that shape the future of activism and civic freedoms.
Beyond covering the cost of travel, accommodation, and event participation, the fellowship opens doors to a unique international networking environment. Journalists will be able to attend five days of high-level conferences, interactive workshops, training sessions, and cultural events, all of which provide material for impactful storytelling. As part of their commitment, fellows are expected to produce and publish at least two pieces of original reporting that highlight both the themes of ICSW 2025 and broader struggles for civic freedoms. The fellowship is inclusive, offering pathways for both experienced journalists and younger reporters under 30, with a strong emphasis on encouraging applications from individuals across the Global Majority.
