The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) invites applications for its Asia in the World Fellowship Programme 2026–2027. This 12-month initiative is designed for early- to mid-career researchers from around the world who seek to expand their academic vision beyond the boundaries of their home countries, institutions, or specific disciplines. The fellowship encourages intellectual exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, aiming to generate fresh perspectives on Asia’s global presence and significance.
Programme Structure
The fellowship runs from October 2026 to October 2027 and includes three phases:
- First Phase (6 months): Fellows will reside in Leiden, the Netherlands, and actively engage with the IIAS academic community.
- Second Phase (3–5 months): Research continues at a selected co-host institution from the programme’s partner list.
- Final Phase: Fellows return to Leiden to conclude and present their research outcomes.
