Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Nationality
- Must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan
- Applicants holding Japanese nationality are not eligible
- Dual nationals may apply if they renounce Japanese nationality before arrival
Age
- Must be born on or after 2 April 1991
- Limited exceptions may apply due to national circumstances (e.g., war, military service)
Academic & Professional Background
- Must have graduated from a university or teacher training institution
- Must have at least five (5) years of teaching experience at:
- Primary or secondary schools, or
- Teacher training institutions (excluding universities)
- Teaching experience must be completed by 1 October 2026
Language & Cultural Readiness
- Willingness to learn the Japanese language
- Strong interest in Japanese culture and education
- Ability to adapt to life and research in Japan
Health
- Must submit an official Medical Certificate of Health
- No physical or mental condition that would hinder study in Japan

Scholarship Benefits
The MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship provides comprehensive funding, including:
Monthly Allowance
- ¥143,000 per month
- Additional ¥2,000–¥3,000 regional allowance for selected locations

- Matriculation fees
- Tuition fees
Travel Expenses
- Round-trip economy airfare from the grantee’s home country to Japan
